Simply pull it out to remove it. Cut a new piece to length and insert it into the groove. On older doors, use self-adhesive foam weather stripping or nail a rigid strip into place. To add weatherstripping to the window, cut a strip to length. Lift the inner sash of the window as high as it will go. Apply the first piece of weatherstripping to the inner sash. Apply the second piece of weatherstripping and close the window. Remove the backing of the top piece of weather stripping that sticks above the sash and press it into place. Lower the outer sash of the window as far as it will go. Repeat the same steps to assess the weatherstripping to the outer sash as you did the inner sash, except leave the backing on the bottom strip in place as you raise the window. Raise the inner sash and apply the weather stripping to the bottom of the sash. Lower the outer sash enough to expose the inside face of the bottom of the sash.
As the weather changes and the windows are opened less, it is time to take the screens out of the windows and put in the storm windows. This adds another layer of weatherproofing to your home.
