5 WAYS TO GET YOUR HOME READY FOR FALL

The cooler months of fall are almost here – and preparing your home now before it gets too cold outside can help you save both time and money.  These tips are designed to help you make your home comfortable and also to boost your energy efficiency and ability to save on your monthly bills.

  1. Bring in delicate plants:Your outdoor potted plants won’t make it past the first cold night, so bring them indoors for the winter. You should also take this time to prune any trees or shrubs that need it and make sure all of your landscaping is ready for winter.
  2. Check seals around doors and windows:The more heat your home loses through the windows and doors, the more it will cost you to keep your home comfortable. Set aside a weekend day while the weather is still nice and check the seals around your doors and windows. This is also a great time to put up any outdoor fall decorations or accessories, too.
  3. Get an HVAC Checkup: Make sure your heater is ready to keep your home at the perfect temperature – without working too hard or using too much energy. A checkup by a skilled Cogburn’s Heating and Air technician can ensure that your system is ready when you need it to be.
  4. Switch out your lawn care and homecare equipment:Put away the lawnmower and other summer tools and bring out the leaf blower and other fall and winter gear so you don’t have to hunt around for them when you need them.
  5. Set your smart thermostat:Change the settings on your thermostat to reflect the new temperatures and make sure your home is comfortable. A programmable thermostat can save you money by controlling the temperature of your home for you; if you don’t have one already, consider installing one to save over the cold weather months.
