We are now in the middle of the hottest months of the year. July to late August are blistering in North Texas and the last thing you need is for your AC do under perform or simply quit!
First and foremost, we at Cogburn’s Heating and Air want to stress that if you have not yet had your system checked for the summer, call us now. Under performing units are heavily stressed and are most likely to go out during these hot weeks. Typically, an AC unit should be able to keep your home about 30 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. If this is not the case with your unit, you should contact us right away to service your system. Preventative maintenance is always far less expensive than a major repair.
Our highly trained technicians are experts on all brands and, with a simple maintenance call, can prevent a major problem before it occurs.
Check your outside unit, which houses the compressor, to make sure it is not clogged with debris or dirt. Simply spraying the unit with a low pressure hose will remove debris and make your unit run more efficiently. Make sure plants, trash containers and other objects are at least three feet away from the outside unit. Remember, the unit is expelling air from the fan and needs space to breathe. Trees, at least several feet away, can offer cooling shade to the unit. But, make sure leaves are not falling into the housing of the unit.
Inside your home, make a regular schedule of changing out your air filter once a month. A dirty air filter is a drag on your AC and prevents properly cooling. A clogged filter can also make indoor allergies worse and shorten the life of your HCAC system.
Keep your blinds and curtains closed during daytime hours. This is particularly important with windows on the west side of your home. Also, make sure your doors have proper weather stripping. A door, even when closed, can let in hot air in the summer and cold air in the winter.
Ceiling fans can make your rooms feels about 5 degrees cooler. A room with a ceiling fan an feel like it is 73 degrees even if your thermostat is set on 78 degrees.
